Burial Depths
Calculate minimum burial depths based on the Canadian Electrical Code. The results are measured from finished grade to the top of your conduits/cables. Caution tape should be layed in the trench at half the buried distance.
Select the level of protection you will be using.
Typical selection for vinyl coated wire such as NMWU.
Selection for aluminum or steel sheathed wire such as TECK cable.
Selection for wire pulled through conduit or pipe such as PVC or DB2.
Select whether vehicles will be driving over your trench area.
Vehicles will travel over top the burried conduit/cables.
Vehicles will not travel over top the burried conduit/cables.
Select the voltage range of your cable runs.
Phase to phase voltage (3 phase) or phase to neutral voltage (single phase) will be 750 volts or less.
Phase to phase voltage (3 phase) or phase to neutral voltage (single phase) will be over 750 volts.
Select if you will be using any extra protection methods.
No extra protection will be used.
Mechanical protection can consist of >= 38mm treated plank, >= 50mm poured concrete, or other suitable material. Protection material must extend 50mm past width of conductors.
Rock encased no less than 150mm deep and grouted over to be flush with rock.
Under >= 100mm concrete slab, in raceway, adequately marked, not subject to damage.
